Kaolao

Kaolao is a PC platform/adventure game, played in third person view. It is also the name of a young Aztec shaman whose abilities enables him to move matter in order to make his way though an obstacle, create bridges, stairs or platforms. With his enquiring mind, Kaolao tries to use a much too powerful artifact and ends up trapped in a hostile future, ruled by machines. His only hope to get back to his time: using his powers to get to the top of the pyramid and recover the artifact, the Glyph of Time. This will be a hard task as the architecture of the site has been weathered by time and remodeled by the new inhabitants of the pyramid. These machines are not going to help Kaolao but make sure to make his way as complicated as possible. Kaolao is a student project, produced in three months and based on the UDK game engine.

The installation files for games are often in an archive format like ".ZIP" to reduce file size and make it easier for you to download the file from the game website. You won't be able to actually install your game until you "unzip" the file so that you can use the installation file inside. Use archive software to accomplish this.

1 Download archive software like WinRAR or WinZip. Open the installation file once it downloads.

2 Click "Next" through each part of installation.

3 Double-click on your .ZIP file. The program should automatically open the ZIP archive and "unzip" it.

You should now see the files inside of your ZIP archive.

One of them should be your installation file. It will likely be a .EXE.

4 Double-click on the installation file to begin installing your game.

Summary

The story of the Kaolao is complex, for an thorough summary you to read it from three different points of view. Kaolao himself in "Story of Kaolao", humanity as a whole in "Robotic Revolution – Origin" and artificial intelligence in "A bodyless AI Chronicle". These three essays are online at:

Goal

Trapped in the future, Kaolao has only one goal: getting back to his time. To do this, he has to use his powers and get to the top of the pyramid to recover the artifact, the Glyph of Time. This will be a hard task as the architecture of the site has been weathered by time and remodeled by the new inhabitants of the pyramid. These machines are not going to help Kaolao but make sure to make his way as complicated as possible.

Vision Statement

When creating Kaolao our foremost wish was to design a funny, intelligent, pretty and accessible game. We had only three months. We worked as a team, defining tasks and setting priorities to them on a week by week basis. It was a very intense and rewarding experience. We sensibly improved our knowledge, working with one of the best engine on the market, the Unreal Development Kit. We like to think that we managed to reach our objective by giving you this playable demo. However keep in mind that it is only the beginning of a adventure, the latter part of it is yet to be created but already partially designed.
